- Description
At St. Paul’s Catholic Junior School we embrace the fact that every child is different and, therefore, the educational needs of every child are different – this is certainly the case for children with Special Educational Needs. It is important to emphasise that, as much as possible, the provision that we put in place for our children is designed by the St. Paul’s staff members working as a whole, alongside the child, the child’s family and, where necessary, outside professionals/agencies. We work with several outside professionals/agencies in order to support our children, these consist of an Educational Psychologist, SENISS, Seedlings, Aquarius Counselling and the CAMHs Mental Health Team. If there is a need that is raised concerning a child that cannot be addressed through any of these areas of support, then we can also refer our children (with parental consent) onto other relevant professionals or support services which we have access to in the Liverpool area. You can find further details of these support services under this link: https://ehd.liverpool.gov.uk/kb5/liverpool/fsd/localoffer.page?localofferchannel=0
A child with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities at St Paul’s Catholic Junior School will have a One Page Profile which sets out targets and looks at what additional provision can be put in place. The One Page Profile is written with our children and families to ensure that a holistic picture of need is identified and targets are set out together. The content of the One Page Profiles have a focus on the process of ‘Assess, Plan, Do and Review.’ This is a continual cycle in which staff look at any needs and act on these accordingly so that the best possible provision can be put in place. For many children, support targets will be connected to learning and cognition and will often be specific to to Literacy and Maths. For other children, they may be connected to communication and interaction, social and emotional development and/or sensory/physical support (for example fine motor control). The most important point to note is that the support targets the children have depend on the needs of that child and are personal to that child.
