Local Offer

Description

1. How does the setting know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs?

We have an informal chat with the parents when the children first start that can give us information on what the child might need. We have a key person system that allows them to get to know each child as an individual and as we are a small setting we all get to know the children really well.

We try to be as open and honest as possible with parents and carers and if you feel your child may need additional support please inform the setting who will help and guide you.

We have a member of staff who is currently studying  for a Liverpool early years senco award.

2. How will the staff in the setting support my child?

We treat all children as ‘unique’ and their progress is monitored and reviewed regularly and shared with parents. We measure progress using;

  •  EYFS, Online learning Journals, Observations, sensory play, visuals/symbols, small group work, key worker system
  • Play plans and regular meetings with SENCO, key person, parents/carers will take place.
  • Referral to specialist services if needed.

3. How will the curriculum be matched to my child's needs?

The children’s key person does regular observations on each child and they adapt the curriculum to suit each individual, sometimes by changing the equipment we use or by offering additional support if needed.

4. What specialist services and expertise can be accessed by the setting?

We are members of the Early Years Consortia that offers lots of help and training. We also have links with the Local Authority, Speech & Language services and will access any additional help needed to support each individual child.

We have a very experienced SENCO who attends regular training and we have had a number of children who have needed additional help i.e. Sign language, Autism awareness training, Speech & Language support etc

We also have access to Educational psychologist, Paediatricians, Local Children Centres etc

We are willing to access additional training in order to help a childs medical needs.

5. How accessible is the setting?

We are happy to discuss your child individual needs and to make reasonable adjustments however we are a very old grade 2 listed building that may struggle to accommodate a wheelchair, please approach us to discuss.

6. How will the setting support my child in transferring to the next stage of education?

We have always visited each school the children will be attending (or they sometimes visit us) and if we think the children may need additional support at this transitional stage we will offer it. In the past we have made a booklet with each step explained with photographs added. Our SENCO has made a number of additional visits to help the child understand what will be happening and we always have lots of activities in the setting to encourage discussions and maybe highlight the children’s concerns i.e. a uniform box, lots of stories related to starting school etc

7. How are parents involved in the setting? How can I be involved?

We are a small setting and all know the children well, so on a daily basis staff will have an informal chat about your child’s day.

We have regular progress meeting to discuss your child’s development (with additional meeting if needed).

We welcome parents views and ask them to share with us their expriences too.
