Working Families

Working Families is the UK’s national charity for working parents and carers. Our mission is to remove the barriers that people with caring responsibilities face in the workplace.
We provide free legal advice to parents and carers on their rights at work. We give employers the tools they need to support their employees while creating a flexible, high-performing workforce. And we advocate on behalf of the UK’s 13 million working parents, influencing policy through campaigns informed by ground-breaking research.

The telephone helpline is for parents, carers and their advisers. We are an independent charity offering free advice on employment rights for parents and carers and in-work benefits for families. You can also use our online form to ask for advice. We advise for instance on:
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Discrimination as a parent/carer
- Adoption, paternity, shared Parental Leave
- Flexible Working and imposed change
- Emergency, parental and parental bereavement leave
- In-work benefits and tax credits
- Free childcare and help with childcare costs
You might find our services useful if you work in a children’s centre, family information service or a citizens advice bureau. Or you may be a midwife, a youth worker or some other voluntary or local authority service provider who works with parents.
