Antenatal Results & Choices (ARC)

ARC is the only national charity which provides non-directive support and information to expectant and bereaved parents throughout and after the antenatal screening and testing process.
ARC offers specialised support for as long as it is needed when parents receive a worrying screening result or when an anomaly is diagnosed in their baby.
ARC is there to offer non-directive information and support to parents before, during and after the prenatal testing process; when they are told their baby has an anomaly, when they are making decisions about continuing with or ending a pregnancy, and when they are coping with complex and painful issues after making a decision, including bereavement.
ARC provides help for parents via:
- A national helpline. Calls and emails are answered by trained staff
- A national support network. 50 trained volunteers offer telephone support across the UK
- Online forum. Password-protected and moderated groups for members who have lost a baby after a prenatal diagnosis
- A range of literature for parents, families and health professionals. We produce handbooks for parents facing a termination and for those continuing after a diagnosis in pregnancy, booklets for bereaved fathers, grandparents and siblings, a booklet on another pregnancy, a handbook for health professionals on supporting parent decision making and a regular membership newsletter

We use the word 'baby' and 'parent' in our literature as most people who contact ARC choose to use these words. We appreciate not everyone is comfortable with this terminology, and ARC staff will always take the lead from callers.
