Faith Primary School

Faith Primary School is located near Liverpool city centre in the borough of Everton. At present 26%of the children on role have additional needs, with a large proportion, needing extra support around Social, Emotional and Mental Health. The school prides itself in prioritising children’s mental health and wellbeing, whilst at the same time, providing all children with an active, ambitious curriculum that contributes to them leading happy, successful lives. The SENCO and Inclusion manager at Faith Primary School is Miss Fox.

Since November 2021, Faith Primary School has held the prestigious title of Flagship School Status in relation to the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM). Only around 100 UK schools have achieved Flagship School status., this award recognises those unique schools who have held IQM Centre of Excellence status for at least 3 years; and played a strong leadership role in developing inclusion best practice across a network of schools.

Inclusion is embedded throughout the curriculum at Faith Primary School and all staff have regular, purposeful SEND training, to ensure that they are well equipped to meet the children's needs and understand possible reasons for behaviour.

Currently a significant proportion of the curriculum is taught through active lessons and outdoor learning , Staff are also trained in Philosophy for Children and this is intertwined into all areas of school life. Children’s voices play a significant role in the classroom and life skills are promoted through activities such as caring for the rabbits and fish.

The Zones of Regulation program underpins the school’s behaviour policy. It is our view that being able to regulate emotions and reflect on situations, is an essential skill needed for adulthood. Each classroom has a toolbox which is filled with items to help the children regulate. The children are taught how to identify when they are becoming unregulated and learn which strategies and tools help move them back into the "green zone", where they are calm, focused and ready to learn.

Each morning the children use a check in system to signal how they are feeling, any children who are not in the “green zone” will be flagged up to SLT by the “Regulation Retrievers” (a group of Year 6 children)  and checked on. If the child gives their permission the schools “Regulation Responders” (a group of Year 5 Children) will also check in with the children at play and dinner time to ensure they feel supported.

All of our teaching and support staff are trained in restorative practice and restorative conversations. This allows children to reflect on disagreements and conflict that may have occurred with their peers. This approach allows for all parties to discuss how they are feeling and then together they create a plan moving forward.

We encourage the children to discuss their emotions and ensure that how they feel is validadted. Most importantly we teach children to understand that there is no such thing as a “bad emotion” but instead we have to look at ways to manage the emotions that make us feel unhappy.

We have access to a number of outside agencies that support with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, such as MHST ,Seedlings and Positive Futures. We also work alongside neurodiverse specific organisations ,such as OSSME and the ADHD foundation. To support our Early Years children with speech and language we work closely with MAST, who work within our setting at specific points in the year..
