Community Family Services Childcare Centre
We are Ofsted registered Oustanding in all areas September 2017. We have highly qualified staff members with 3 trained DSL on site. All staff have Paediatric First Aid certificates, Safeguarding, food hygiene and allergy awareness and PREVENT training as standard.
We open 50 weeks of the year 8am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday. We have full time and part time places available. We also offer 15 and 30 hour funded places. We offer wrap around childcare and support to local schools and families.
All staff have sound knowledge and understanding of the EYFS, EHAT and referral processes and have completed EHAT & Outcome Star training. We have 2 staff who completed the Early Years SENCO Award and 1 member of staff Level 2 SENCO.
We cover a varied curriculum and nursery received a Maths GOLD Quality Mark. We visit the local library and go on outings in to the local community. To support speech and language development we have gained communication friendly status after completing the Communication Counts training with Elkan. Management have completed the WELLCOMM training, a speech and language screening tool.
We have a strong staff team/leadership with 2 staff members having completed Liverpool Early Years Chartered Leader course. The nursery leadership team consists of 2 company directors and a nursery manager. We have 4 staff members who have completed the Portage training and we are now able to offer this onsite.
We have good relationships with parents, carers and children. We have good links with NDNA network meeting and regular attendance to Consortia meetings and SIL leadership briefings. Leadership regularly attend Ofsted's Big conversation conference.
We offer training opportunities for students from local schools/colleges – NLA and have strong links with other agencies – LCC, local Children’s Centres, Health visitors, local schools, other nurseries and community.

1. How does the setting know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs?
If your child is new to our setting then progress will be discussed with you regularly and we are happy to liaise with any previous setting including childminders with your consent.
We ask for an All About Me pack to be completed by parents on entry. We also complete Learning Journeys on Tapestry which include observations and developmental progress of each individual child. We nurture strong relationships with all parents and carers, we have regular parent partnership meetings, where any concerns regarding special needs may be discussed and the appropriate support put in place with your allocated key person and the Senco.
2. How will the staff in the setting support my child?
The progress of all children is monitored and reviewed regularly and shared with parents. We measure progress using;
- EYFS, Learning Journals on Tapestry, observations and tracking, sensory play, visuals/symbols e.g. Time lines, small group work, key worker
- Referral to specialist services
- We attend Early Years Consortia cluster 2 for support with SEND
- WELLCOMM screening
3. How will the curriculum be matched to my child's needs?
The setting is organised by chronological age. The curriculum is adapted to a child's individual needs.
We complete on entry assessments, All About Me booklets and children’s interest sheets regularly. We plan activities according to the children’s interest and development stages.
We use play plans and other review tools to support any additional needs.
4. What specialist services and expertise can be accessed by the setting?
We work in partnership with the local authority, School Improvement Liverpool, health and social care services.
We are members of the Early Years Consortia for Special Educational Needs.
Staff have been trained/are highly qualified in Early Years with 2 Early Years Chartered Leaders on site. We have Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding, Portage, Building Blocks for Communication, Communication Counts etc. We continually complete quality training courses that support and develop our knowledge of childcare. We are members of the NDNA and access their training and support.
We strive to further our knowledge by keeping up to date with changing legislation and becoming involved in research. We have been part of a STEWS assessment for speech and language development in early years and a project concerned with block play for 2 year olds. We also work closely with the Community Nursery Nurse from the Health Visiting Team to access support for parents.
5. How accessible is the setting?
The setting is all ground level and wheelchair accessible.
We are happy to discuss your child individual needs and to make reasonable adjustments.
We adhere to strict safeguarding procedures to ensure that our building is secure and our children are kept safe.
6. How will the setting support my child in transferring to the next stage of education?
We work closely with all schools in Liverpool and in particular our local area. We offer transitional visits to our local primary schools. We swap boxes (which include uniforms, work etc.) with the school and share these with our nursery children. We complete transition documents that are passed on to the children’s new school.
7. How are parents involved in the setting? How can I be involved?
We chat everyday with parents and discuss their weekends with the children.
We invite parents to discuss their child's progress regularly. We also hold parent’s evenings every term. We involve our parents in parent partnership events and activities. We have stay and play events for parents to come in and bring younger siblings to visit. Our parents and families come in and read to the children as part of our mystery readers.
We link in with our local children centre and parent groups.
