- Description
1. How does the setting know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs?
If you think your child has special educational needs, please speak to your child’s key person or a member of the management team upon registration at the nursery.
We would monitor your child for a period of time to gather observations on where the support is believed to be needed and after reviewing these, if needed, the Special Educational Needs Co- Ordinator can create play plans which focuses the learning on the area of concern.
In addition to this we can refer a child to other professionals who can further support development.
2. How will the staff in the setting support my child?
All children have electronic learning journey's which include observations on the child’s learning and development in nursery these can take the form of text, photograph or video.
The children are assessed using the Early Years Foundation Stage, and parents are updated on their child’s learning through Quarterly Review Reports which are undertakenevery 3 months by the child's key person.
3. How will the curriculum be matched to my child's needs?
Key persons plan for each chiuld individually according to their interests. We aim for the children yo "learn through play" so therefore insist on staff playing with the children.
If your child requires support in any area, with parents’ permission the Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator can create a play plan, which directs the child’s key person to focus on the learning in that area of concern.
4. What specialist services and expertise can be accessed by the setting?
We are members of the Early Years Consortia, and we work closely with are local Children’s Centre supporting our children and their families.
All staff are first aid trained as well as being trained in Safeguarding and eyfs.
We work alongside other professionals such as Health Visitors, Speech and language therapists and Educational psychologists as and when needed.
5. How accessible is the setting?
We try to meet all children’s needs where possible, however there are stairs leading into the nursery and the children’s rooms are situated on 3 floors in the building.
6. How will the setting support my child in transferring to the next stage of education?
We work closely with schools where the children are transitioning to. We support visits to the schools where possible and each child has a report to give to the school, which not only details your child’s interests, but where they are in their learning and development.
7. How are parents involved in the setting? How can I be involved?
We hold Parent Social Evenings twice a year, to encourage parents to get to know each other and staff in an informal setting.
We hold regular days when parents and other family members are invited to nursery to take part in various activities.
Parents can request a meeting with their child’s key person, to discuss any concerns or progress that their child is making.
