SMILE Initiative

The SMILE initiative which stands for Self-Motivation, Inclusive Learning and Enrichment will be the catalyst to make a real difference in helping the disabled and vulnerable people we support live a more fulfilled and independent life. We will aim to help disabled and vulnerable people through the transition utilising relevant and necessary interventions learnt through the previous SMILE that will greatly enhance the chances of each individual reaching their true potential. We want to encourage individuals to make informed and educated decisions to improve their health, mental and physical wellbeing, improving social interactions helping them to live a happy, purposeful and fulfilled life.

When first meeting a new participant of the SMILE initiative they will meet with our management and support team that will assess their needs and requirements and tailor a personal development plan focusing on ‘Where they are now, Where they want to go and How they are going to get there’. The initiative will focus on 3 key points:-

Self-Motivation – Encouraging participants to be happy in their own skin and happy with who they are. We will support individuals to improve their confidence and self-esteem, make friends and feel empowered to take ownership in their lives.

Independent Living/Inclusive Learning – Supporting individuals to reach their true potential. Working with our Independent Living Co-ordinator and Inclusive Development Officer participants will gain life skills, independence, qualifications and work experience that will help them on their journey to reach their aspirations and targets.

Enrichment – Enrichment activities including sports and physical activity, health and wellbeing and music will be the catalyst to helping participants to feel fit in body and fit in mind. We want to ensure that participants also have the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing as this will go a long way to help their future development.

We aim to use a pre-vocational centred approach throughout this SMILE initiative and the five initiatives will be: Sports, Time (Travel, Independence, Mobility and Empowerment), Performing Arts, Horticulture and Customer Services. These five pathways will create a conduit for personal development and empowerment.
