YPAS - Parental Support

YPAS offer a range of support programmes, courses and coffee events for parents and carers.

 

 

The Incredible Years Programme (IY)

This Parenting Programme focuses on strengthening parenting competencies and fostering parent involvement in children’s experiences, to promote their social and emotional skills and reduce conduct problems. 

A 14 week course which can offer help and support to deal with a child’s behaviour in a positive way. The Programme aims to offer support by;

  • Helping parents and carers deal effectively with their children
  • Supporting parents to bring out the best behaviour in children
  • Building on a parent or carer’s skills and experience of dealing with difficult behaviours
  • Helping parents and carers to help their child get the best out of school/nursery
  • Increasing parent and carer’s self confidence
  • Providing support for families.
  • During COVID trainees will complete a tailored programme with 2 families each via ZOOM.

The programme is for any parent or carer, of a child aged between two and ten years old in Liverpool, who wants to learn new ways to manage their child’s behaviour. Parents can be referred in using the YPAS referral form.

 

Nurturing Programme

Nurturing Programme helps you deal with behavioural challenges so that you can get the best from family life. It is designed to explore lots of different topics aimed at helping you understand why children behave as they do, recognising the feelings behind the behaviours, exploring different approaches to discipline, and the importance of looking after yourself. The programme is aimed at parents with a child or children aged between 4-12 years.

 

ParenTalk - The Teenage Years

The teenage years are a time of transition and can be challenging for both teenagers and parents. 

Parentalk – The Teenage Years is all about helping parents and carers to do the best job they can as they navigate these years with their teenager.

It’s a relaxed, informal course giving you the opportunity to talk about the day-to-day challenges you face, as well as sharing the things that are going well.

The sessions are presented by Rob Parsons OBE and Katharine Hill. They are joined by special guests, including broadcaster Carrie Grant, educational psychologist Dave Lumsdon and youth specialist Rachel Gardner.

Youth Connect 5 - Parenting Programme

A five week programme to help parents gain an understanding, knowledge and skills in relation to promoting resilience for their children. Parents will finish the course with a range of tools that they can use to support their children.  This is a course for parents/carers of children aged 8 plus.

Parents can be referred in via the YPAS  referral process.

 

Coffee Events

Coffee events are held monthly in the north and south hub services are invited to give information about what they offer, previous services who have been invited to talk with parents include , Talk Liverpool, Liverpool Early Help Hubs, LIVPac, Autism in Motion and many more.  These events are open access: any parent /carer can attend a coffee event.

During the current COVID changes to working these coffee events are being held virtually via ZOOM.  Parents can contact YPAS and will be asked to complete a short registration form.  Once completed YPAS will send the ZOOM link.

YPAS provides mental health and emotional wellbeing services for Liverpool's children, young people and families.

Established in 1966 YPAS is a charitable sector organisation that supports children, young people and families to address their mental health and emotional well-being difficulties. The delivery of our citywide services includes: primary schools, secondary schools and across three locality community hubs.

Our Wellbeing Services provide a range of services that are designed to help you with your practical issues: offering various groups, drop-ins and individual information, advice and guidance.

Our Counselling and Psychotherapy Services provide a wide range of therapeutic interventions that are designed to help you address those issues that are impacting on your mental health and emotional well-being.
