Association for Post Natal Illness (APNI)

Helpline for women with post natal depression, their partners and healthcare professionals.
Postnatal Illness is a type of depression or anxiety that some women experience after having a baby and we now know men can experience it after becoming a parent too. It can develop within the first six weeks of giving birth, but is often not apparent until around six months or later. Postnatal Illness is more common than many people realise, affecting as many as one in 5 women and many men after having a baby.
The Association provides a telephone helpline or live text chat via the chat bot on our website Mon-Fri 10am-2pm, information leaflets for sufferers and healthcare professionals as well as a network of volunteers (telephone and email), who have themselves experienced postnatal illness.
The Association also runs a support service for husbands and families of anyone affected by postnatal illness.. Many of the volunteer husbands will talk to husbands of sufferers and offer help and advice if necessary.
If you are suffering from postnatal depression we recommend that you try talking to one of our volunteers. We are always happy to hear from anyone needing support Postnatally and are glad to answer any enquiries.
