EPIC Social Care C.I.C

EPIC supports young adults with Autism to consolidate their education within our day care services. Based in the heart of Speke, south Liverpool - Community integration is an important aspect of our provision. Our days are activity led and we provide development opportunities within all we do.

What does EPIC stand for?

ENTERPRISE
EPIC offers a unique experience into the world of work which our participants most likely would not have the opportunity to explore otherwise. Through our enterprise project, our service users grow skills in money management, time keeping, community integration and are provided with a sense of purpose. EPIC is working in collaboration with local dog treats company, Nelson’s Treats for this project. The participants create, pack and market the dog treats and in return they decide how to best use this income.

PROGRESSION
We focus on progress, not attainment. Progress will happen at varying pace for each individual, our role is to provide encouragement throughout the process, highlight successes and recognise progress. EPIC provides a multifaceted approach in regards to progression. Each week we have dedicated sessions for physical activity and coding with Everton in the Community and Malvern Karate, Maths and life skills with KDC as well as our enterprise project and other enrichment opportunities.

INDEPENDENCE
Our toolkit has been designed to help service users and their families to develop, set and pursue self-determined goals on an individual level. The key element is that individuals find the goals important and meaningful. The process of changes for young adults with autism will ideally help them to self- manage and direct; ✓ Emotions and behaviours ✓ Social skills and social opportunities ✓ Social relationships ✓ Leisure activities ✓ Health & wellbeing. Ultimately developing their independence.

CONFIDENCE
EPIC provides guidance to explore new opportunities and acknowledges positive behaviours, supporting the transition into adulthood with confidence building exercises and social activities. Our service users shape what activities we deliver and how our days are planned out. Daily tasks are shared, from completing the register, taking care of our plants, making lunch for each other or taking the lead on an activity. Ensuring that each individual has a responsibility and can complete a task helps to build confidence and embed a sense of purpose.

What sets us apart - Enterprise Project
EPIC provides a unique opportunity for our service users to not only enhance their personal development but explore their professional development whilst doing so. Our enterprise project in collaboration with local dog treats company, Nelson’s Treats, enables the group to fully experience every element of running a business. The success of this project relies on group participation and responsibilities are delegated considering each of the participants skill set, goals and enthusiasm for the task. From taking online orders to posting the products, our service users provide a full end to end service and learn vital skills along the way, such as: Money management, IT skills, written and verbal communication, time keeping, fine motor skills, creativity, managing expectations and basic hygiene. Once our group have decorated and packed their dog treats, they then place a “packed by” sticker on the front, so buyers know exactly who they are supporting by purchasing this product. It is important to us that the participants of the enterprise project are at the forefront throughout, we want to share their progress and success with a wide audience as to not only acknowledge their achievements but also break the stigma around people with Autism and their capabilities. Some EPIC attendees have faced low expectations throughout their lives, this project provides them with an opportunity that they would not have access to outside of our provision. Through our trial run of this project, we have already seen a brilliant boost in overall morale and enthusiasm to continue from both our cohort and the general public.
